Laura Cook Johnson, born September 15, 1934 departed from this life to live with her Savior, Jesus Christ on January 28, 2026.
Born Laura Joan Cook to William and Ethel Hemmings Cook.
Laura lived most of her life in Homer, New York. When she was a young woman she loved to travel overseas. Laura spent a short time teaching in Germany, where she met Darwin Johnson and then later married.
She was a Homer Elementary school teacher for over 25 years and was much loved by her students and parents.
Laura was a life long member of Homer Baptist Church, now known as Grace Christian Fellowship. She was involved in a weekly bible study with her dear friends.
Laura was a former Board member for the Elizabeth Brewster House and was well known and loved by the Homer community.
Laura was known as the family historian; she had a memory for dates and happenings for decades back. One of her great joys in recent years was reconnecting with long lost relatives from the West Coast.
Laura always had a great story to tell and could make you laugh. She loved her family and also her Savior.
Laura was predeceased by her husband, Darwin P. Johnson, her parents, William and Ethel Cook and many beloved cousins.
She is survived by first cousins: Jerry (Susan) Cook, Dick (Audrey) Cook, Dan (Mary Kaye) Cook, Russell (Mary) Hemmings, Bud (Eileen) Hemmings, Jane (Conrad) Collins, Patty (Dan) Dutton, Don (Janie) Perry, Barb (Perry) and John Horning, Gail Perry Simone, Lisa Cook (Joel Simonetti) and Laura’s God daughter, Theresa Muellar. She is also survived by many second and third cousins whom she loved dearly!
A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 13, 2026 at the Atwater Cemetery in Homer, New York at 10:00AM.
